::Devotional:: “It’s by Grace and Love”

November 3, 2010

As I was teaching my Bible 8 class yesterday about the different religions of the world and how they are fundamentally different from Christianity, the only true religion, God reminded me of a very important truth.  Christianity is the only place where you  will find mankind incapable of appeasing God of its own power.  All other religions center around what man can earn.  That’s why only Christianity is true.  Man is incapable of appeasing God because man’s sin is detestable to a holy God.  Our salvation is based on the work of Jesus Christ, who died on the cross and was resurrected from the dead.  Jesus was the propitiation for man’s sin before God.

This morning the Lord directed me to a passage of scripture in Titus that I’m sure I’ve read before but I guess my heart was more open to at this point in light of yesterday’s Bible lesson.

But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. 8 This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone.  Titus 3:4-8

Remind yourself of the grace and love that has been poured out upon you this morning but the Almighty God.  Remind yourself that you have been saved by his mercy, washed by rebirth, renewed by the Holy Spirit, and justified by his grace.
