::Devotional:: ‘Dusty Bibles & Dirty Lives’ (Video by Lecrae)

July 22, 2010

There is no shortage of intelligent people in the world today.  In our country, some of the most powerful people have graduated from Ivy League schools with all sorts of honors and accolades. Education is a priority for many people.  However, what there is a shortage of is solid morals based on the truths of God’s word.  Dusty Bibles lead to dirty lives.

There was a time in this country were the Bible guided the government, managed the military, and proctored the people.  There was a time when the word of God guided the hearts of Christians in this country as well.  However, what is apparent today is that even within the church, the body of believers, the Bible has been discarded and placed up the shelf.  Dusty Bibles lead to dirty lives.

Bibles gather dust and our lives gather dirt when we do not read the word of God.  When we name the name of Christ and forsake his teachings we are merely fooling ourselves.  Personally, I believe one of the greatest victories the evil one can claim in our lives is convincing us that we no longer need to read the Bible.

Consider the wisdom of Psalm 119:

How can a young man keep is way pure? By living according to your word.  I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands.  I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.  Psalm 119:9-11

Just as we need to accept and believe in Jesus for our salvation we must commit to the study and obedience of his word to grow as a Christian.  It’s as simple as that.  Dusty Bibles lead to dirty lives.

Whatever you do today – make sure you get in the word.
