::Devotional:: ‘Undone by FFH’

June 15, 2010

I heard a man on the radio the other day say that we pray incorrectly when we ask the Lord for more of the Holy Spirit.  Praying for more power, more strength, more help from the Holy Spirit implies that there is something lacking in the Holy Spirit that the Lord has delivered to dwell within us.  It’s as if our tank is only 3/4 full and we need it topped off before hit the next stretch of road.  I’ve definitely been there, but I’m not sure it’s the right way to see things.

Further in his message, the man said that the proper prayer is that you and I would ask for the Lord’s help to yield more to the Holy Spirit that lives within us.  The key is not asking for more from the Holy Spirit but giving him more of ourselves, therein lies the access to the power, strength, comfort, and peace of the Lord.  To see more from the Holy Spirit in our lives does not require God to deliver additional portions to us but rather that we would yield more to the full portion he has already provided.

We are called to be controlled, captained like a vessel on the sea, by the Holy Spirit.  That requires us to yield.

9 You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ. Romans 8:9

Recently I heard a song on the radio by FFH called Undone that I wanted to share with you this morning.  I pray that you would allow this song to minister to your heart and even as you read through the lyrics I’ve provided as well.

-Stay Rooted Col. 2:7-

Open up wide, swallow down deep
No spoon full of sugar could make it sweet
The cancer inside stealing my sleep
Night after night it keeps haunting me
The secrets I keep
Are tearing me up inside
I try to hide and then I wonder why

Why I’m still running when I know there’s no escaping

Come undone, surrender is stronger
I don’t need to be the hero tonight
We all want love we all want honor
Nobody wants to pay the asking price

Fall on my knees, fall on my pride
I’m tripping over all the times I’ve lied
I’m asking please, but I can see in your eyes
You don’t need tears for alibis
It’s true what they say
Love must be blind
It’s why You’re still standing by this sinner’s side

You’re still by my side when all the things I’ve done have left you bleeding

Chorus

I don’t think I can drive it home tonight
I don’t think I wanna be alone tonight

Chorus

The old saying you can run but you can”t hide. This is a good song. A very good devotion.
