::Devotional::’An Honest Day’s Work’

February 18, 2010

As much as I wanted to be a couch potatoe as a kid, I’m grateful now for the work ethic my parents instilled in me.  They worked hard and they worked often.  As a matter of fact, they still work hard and they still work often and one of them is retired! Ha! I was taught to take care of things when they needed to be taken care and to do things right the first time.  I was taught to work hard and work often.  As an adult, I can now appreciate that value of an honest day’s work; especially an honest day’s work for the kindgom of Christ.

Yesterday was a busy day for me.  I went to work and taught through my normal schedule of classes which in included a 6th & 7th grade Bible class.  I participated in a planning committee meeting for the future of our school immediately after the teaching day was over.  Afterwards, I stopped at home for quick bite to eat before heading off to church to teach a Bible 101 – How to Study the Bible class.  It was busy, and when I got home around 9pm I was tired.  But there is no greater feeling for me than having put in an honest day’s work for the Lord.

My Pastor shared a story about D. L. Moody this past Sunday that really describes how I feel about working for the cause of Christ.

Years ago the great evangelist Dwight L. Moody returned home for a brief rest before he went back out again. Seeing the tiredness on his face, his family encouraged him to cancel some of his meetings and take an extended rest. Moody replied, “I may grow weary in the work, but I never grow weary of the work.’

I have had a wonderful night’s rest and I’m ready to roll again this moring.  I am seeking the opportunities the Lord puts before me to do what I was created to do – Glorify Him Above All Else!  I have renewed strength through the power of his precious word this morning.

He give strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.  Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.  They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.  Isaiah 40:29-31

Seek to bring Glory to his name today.  Exhaust yourself in exalting the King of kings and the Lord of lords for he is worthy to be praised; the angels cry Holy Holy Holy is the Lord God Almighty the whole earth is full of his glory!  Put in an honest day’s work for the Lord and feel the power of his presence upon you!
