::Devotional:: ‘Precious In The Sight Of The Lord’

October 16, 2009

Over this past week or so, it seems like death has made its presence known in the lives of those around me.  Either someone has recently passed away or someone passed away around this time in the past, but it just seems like death is the common thread in a lot of areas right now.  With death, there’s never really an easy way to handle it or get past it and sometimes we forget that grieving and mourning are part of the natural process God has given us to deal with death.

The Lord knows and understands our hearts.  He has planned the day and the time that each of us will pass from this life to the next and has done so with perfect precision.  Sometimes it doesn’t feel like that though.  Sometimes we feel like our loved ones were taken away and we have been left abandoned.  Sometimes we forget that just as much as we miss our loved ones, God longs for them even more.

Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.  Psalm 116:15

Sometimes we forget that this is not our home and that we are simply pilgrims in a foreign land.  Our home is with the Lord.  I have personally found great comfort in realizing that those who have believed in the Lord and have passed away, are not gone forever.  They have simply traveled on ahead of me and will greet me when I get there.  God has taken great care in calling them home on his terms and in his timing.  They are precious in the sight of the Lord.
